Les jardins en 1688

This above is the entrance to the main part of the King's flowers exhibition, located in Cotelle gallery. Photographs were not allowed due to the extremely delicate and fragile nature of the displayed items, which included gorgeous watercolours on vellum and XVIIIth century gardening books. I loved a ledger which tells us of the 96000 bulbs that needed planting! Below is a 1688 gouache by Jean Cotelle representing the gardens at Grand Trianon.

  2. 96000 bulbs, that is astounding! Wow, I can only imagine how it must have looked. How beautiful your shots are, even if you couldn't take any inside. (St. James's is one of my favourite parks, it's just so lovely:)

  4. Amazing! With all of the art, beauty, history and reflections it's a shame that I haven't gone inside the palace gates.
