Here are two views of the former royal tennis court where one of the major events of the French Revolution took place. In those days, tennis was called 'palm game' and the players would have been watched from the gallery!
Voici deux vues de la salle du jeu de paume, l'ancêtre du tennis, salle où se tint le serment du jeu de paume. La deuxième photo montre la galerie d'où les spectateurs pouvaient regarder !

ReplyDeleteRe your promise: We'll call you as soon as we arrive. BTW, we get lots of rain here, at least this year; it's raining almost every afternoon. The storms yesterday knocked me off the Internet last night and knocked out our a/c. Fortunately it wasn't that hot yesterday and the a/c repair person is coming this morning! :)

ReplyDeleteSuper shots Ciel, I can't remember the name of the film but there was a scene of an indoor tennis game, think it was English..but similar in that there was a gallery. So different from tennis games now, wonder if they made as much noise as they do now :) It probably wasn;t quite so hard hitting back then.
