Turn around from where you were standing yesterday and this is what you see: Saint-Louis cathedral! For a full view of the cathedral and a bit of history, you can click here and if you would like to see all the photos, inside and out, click here. Update: to answer the questions posted, the king who was canonised saint was Louis IX.
Beautiful capture and I love that blue and gold!! It is indeed such an incredible, lovely cathedral! Great shot for the day as always, Ciel! Hope you have a delightful weekend!! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI love it from this vantage point, just looking up at those beautiful details! Enjoyed the fuller history from the previous post too - fascinating to hear these tales! Hope you enjoy a restful weekend:)
ReplyDeleteI should know this because I grew up in Saint Louis, Missouri, but was one of the Kings of France named Louis actually made a Saint by the Roman Catholic Church? I don't think of the later King Louises (what is plural for Louis?) being very saintly in their lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteI had the same question that Dave has. Inquiring minds demand to know . . .
ReplyDeleteWe visited this Cathedral with an excellent guide!
ReplyDelete@ Dave and Jack: Louis IX: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_IX_of_France
ReplyDeleteI like the way you composed this! Makes the cathedral look like it's reaching for the heavens, which is what it's supposed to do, I think.
ReplyDeleteSaint Louis IX and soon we'll have another saintly pope.
No further comment.
We can certainly relate to that around here. Our oldest church, almost under the Arch, as well as the big cathedral, have the same name.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful facade Ciel and so beautifully shown here. Hope you're having lots of blue skies this weekend.
ReplyDeleteWow the craftsmanship of that era. Magnificent! Love the gold and blue. MB
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful details. They just don't make things like they used to. :)
ReplyDeleteFormal and elegant. Great POV. Formidable!
