This is Alfred Chauchard (1821-1909), a businessman and important patron of the Louvre museum as seen by sculptor Henri Weingele. An interesting read about him (in French) is this way. This statue stands near his former Versailles home, which you can see at the end of the road in this picture. More about the building and the surrounding streets when I get the chance to go back...

ReplyDeleteMany thanks for sharing his story..
ReplyDeleteInteresting sculpture of him from the time period.
ReplyDeleteHe looks a bit like a cocker spaniel.
ReplyDeleteI think you chose an interesting light on his head! :)

This is great. Almost ghostly looking.
ReplyDeleteHe seems to be posing as Lincoln. (Or was Lincoln posing as him?)
ReplyDeleteExcept . . . what a strange statue!
il a pas l'air de rigoler cet homme
ReplyDeleteRepresente ici imposant et serieux mais avec la lumiere du juste au-dessus de sa tete!
ReplyDeleteHe looks quietly impressive sitting there calmly surveying all that he sees!! He certainly looks like someone who would be interested in 'museum' findings.
ReplyDeleteHe looks well protected and comfy. Are those pork-chop sideburns?
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice sculpture, but could use a little pressure-washing, I think. Interesting story, too. Thanks. I did check out his former home - looks like a small Palais!
ReplyDeleteRe your comment on Florida Fotos: In the latest issue of Time magazine there's a fascinating story of animal friendships!
He looks like he's watching over the area. This scene would have such a different feel without the wood fence and moss. I like it!
ReplyDeleteIl correspond bien au look de son temps: tu as vu ces favoris?!!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, Monsieur, have never heard of you before. :-)
ReplyDeleteNice statue, but Monsieur is new for me:)
ReplyDeleteBergen is lovely, especially, these timbered old houses!
Have a nice weekend.
Statues of sitting people are always a bit funny...
ReplyDeleteNice image.
ReplyDeleteI have a Blogger Classic Template and I can't get the reactions widget! And unfortunately there isn't any code to write it!
@ Jack: yup. Hadn't quite gotten the description right in my head, you hit the nail...
ReplyDelete@ JM and Joo: I only just met him too! I had never heard of him...
He's almost glowing! Must have been a cool dude. ;)
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to touring Paris with you wonderful photos! (This is Paris, right?)
ReplyDelete@ David : no, this isn't Paris.
