L'arrière de l'hôtel de ville

This is the back of the town hall. To see the front or other views, click on the label below! The Belvedere is on Artsy Versailles today.

  1. Such a lovely building — it looks better from the back than most buildings look from the front.

  2. I imagine someone elegant and full of grace descending those wing-like stairs.

  3. Love those steps. Someone could go up one side, then suddenly decide he/she doesn't want to go into the town hall and go down the other side. Slick!

    Nice afternoon light, right?

All things considered, I think I'd prefer to use this entrance. Those stairs are amazing!

  6. Now that is a fine back entrance, n'est-ce pas? I would love to slide down one of those bannisters!

Have a great week ahead, mon amie!

  7. What a fantastic, royal "City Hall!" I'd be tempted to call it the "City Castle!"

  13. Tout frais et pimpant, l'escalier à double volée semble bien fragile et à peine accroché.
Quand tu visites une ville et est dans le besoin, l'Hôtel de Ville t'offre des toilettes gratuites mais je n'ai pas essayé celles de Versailles.

  14. This looks quite festive for a town hall. I guess it is supposed to make people feel better if they have to go meet with a bureaucrat to get a building permit or complain about their property tax.

  22. Awesome, but do you know if the staircase 'came' with the building or was it added later? Outside staircases used to always be made of stone those days.

  25. I wondered if the stairs were added later also. They do seem like they were. What a wonderful town hall.
