La chapellerie au salon des métiers d'art

Another art that was presented at the town hall last weekend was the miliner's trade, in this case the gorgeous creations of Christiane Schmitt.

Un autre métier représenté au salon du weekend dernier, la sublime chapellerie de Christiane Schmitt.

  5. Do women wear hats like these in Versailles? Women in the US used to wear them for Easter, but today hardly any do. The other occasion would be for famous horse races like the Kentucky Derby, but those are usually broad-rimmed hats.

  7. They are pretty and just in time for Easter, but do French women still wear such bonnets?

  9. And gorgeous they certaintly are.
My Mother's family at one time were miliners. My Greatgrandmother has a sewing school and each of her girls excelled in a different seamstress field. My Mother also was an excellent seamstress but I was too obstinate to sit still long enough to learn much. My Mother's maiden name was Schmidt and her Grandmother's name was Schwietzer and one it goes. MB

  23. It truly is an art form. I've sadly never been able to wear a hat and look decent.

  24. I love hats and even carried one in a giant hat-box on the plane home from CDG... not without difficulty.

In the South we wear hats like these for certain events... love that blue one!

Absolutely fabulous hats and photo! It's nice to know that women still wear beautifully feminine hats somewhere in the world!

  30. I love this photo. I haven't seen a hat display in a long time. I would love to have an event to wear such hats.

  31. I'm not the type that can pull a hat like that off, I would just look ridiculous in such a thing!
