L'opéra royal

Mid-January, I had the immense pleasure of going to the Royal Opera inside the Palace. It was planned as early as 1682 but due to lack of funds was only constructed by Jacques-Ange Gabriel towards the end of the reign of Louis XV. It was inaugurated on 16 May 1770, the day of the Dauphin's marriage to Marie-Antoinette. It is entirely made of wood and reopened in late 2009 after extensive restoration.
