Sortie des poubelles...

Bins are taken out of Versailles prison, ready to be emptied. Actually, it's a 'maison d'arrêt' where defendants are held pending trial/sentencing. It also houses prisoners who have been sentenced to less than one year of prison.

  2. I wasn't expecting a prison! Ours are usually separate from the rest of the community and surrounded by barbed wire and other deterrents to escape.

Thanx for explaining military neighborhoods. They sound very much like military posts or bases. But in the States those are off-limits to civilians and well-guarded. Very interesting.

  3. As Jacob stated, it would be very unusual to see any kind of prison in a residential or commercial area here in the states. We tend to find out of the way places for our prisons.

  4. Anybody hiding in that can?

Not all prisons in the US are 'remote'. Holmesburg Prison in Philadelphia was located in a very populated part of the city. The facade was beautiful and went down fast from there. It's now used as a haunted house for Halloween. Quite fitting once you see the photos!

  5. Like our jails. They make a distinction in this country between jails and prisons. Not something you would find in the middle of an ordinary city block.

  6. Bob is right, not something you would see in most citys. But is look alot better than ones that I have seen. Nice photo.

  9. That so doesn't look like a prison, more like residences. As everyone has said, our prisons are no where near the city. You've got a good theme going on here with bits of red in your photos lately.

PS - Anytime you want to come to Tucson and visit, I will personally show you around the city :)

  10. As Bob says, this is more like an American jail rather than a prison, something that I rather clumsily tried to explain. Most prisons in this country are outside towns nowadays, with a few exceptions.

  11. Les poubelles cela rythme la vie d'une ville et des humains depuis peu. J'ai lu que la Terre ne produit pas de déchet car tout est recyclé.
Une poubelle devant la prison, c'est hautement philosophique et métaphorique.

  15. I could pass by and didn't notice it was a prison. It's so different the kind of prison that we used to see in Brazil.Looks like a normal building in a peaceful neighborhood.
It's good, I mean mainly for people that live near there.
    Have a great day,

  17. I'd say this is more what we think of as a "jail" than a "prison".

It does look really nice though. Not that I've ever been to jail or prison, but I don't think they look as welcoming as this. :)

  18. I would never know this was a jail. I need to get a photo of ours for comparison. I love your Versailles!
