I think there will come a day when local shops will make shoes once more. It is nice to know and to see and feel where one's products personally come from.
There are very few cobblers around now, but I like them as they can keep a favourite pair going longer. Although many shoes nowadays are thrown away rather than repaired.
I like the details, they really capture your attention. I also like the old paint on the walls - I always thought those advertisements were really interesting. In the US farmers used to paint advertisements on their barns. There's one near my house - I should get a shot of it.

ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that the shop looks desolate and abandoned but the door looks very solid and appears to be in great shape.
ReplyDeleteWe have very few "bootmakers" left also.
«Louis» really enjoys your doorway series!
ReplyDeleteYou Europeans have such wonderful doors to use and photograph! Looks like a "ghost" sign on the building. Wonder what kind of shop it is, or was?

The sideshow of the old bootmaker is very nice. I like the idea of the hole centered in the O.

ReplyDeleteSuch an intriguing doorway.
ReplyDeleteAll the bootmakers have gone to China.
ReplyDeleteI love the faded portion of sign next to the door. Wonderful composition!
ReplyDeleteQuel mystère cette porte noire cache-t-elle ? Gotique ?
ReplyDeleteIl y a longtemps !
ReplyDeleteI love "ghost signs", I think they're more interesting than when they're new.
ReplyDeleteThe landlord gave him the "boot"? ha ha!
ReplyDelete(an english idiom, to throw someone out)
Great old double doors with the leaded glass at the top. And a great door handle.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the building is still in use as something else.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful doorway!
Léia
