Wow, a curiosity in that setting. My friends stayed at an inn on the central coast of California during their honeymoon trip which featured, along with the round bed and red satin sheets, a buffalo head like this over looking the bridal suite :-). The place is the Madonna Inn outside of San Luis Obispo, and was known for its excess and tacky taste in decorative arts. At least this mounted head seems to be among tasteful surroundings :-:. I like the warm yellow and browns in your photo. -Kim

That buffalo sure traveled a long way from the American west.
ReplyDeletehahahahahaha!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat in the world is this thing doing there? That's fascinating. I don't think you had bison in France, right?
ReplyDeleteMaybe the owner took a trip to Montana and shot one and brought home the head?
Oops! I also meant to say I like your header very much!
ReplyDeleteUn proprietaire qui a voyage aux Ameriques et ramene une tete de bison. Chez moi c'est plutot les masques africains :)
ReplyDeleteTrès surprenant ce bison petite question tu as bien déjeuner dans ce restaurant?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is possible, or perhaps the shop was used as a meeting place by the Surrealists decades ago. Maybe it's just that Dali once browsed here.

Cool picture. The buffalo gives it a surreal feel.
ReplyDeleteHas to be a collector's item as one can't hunt buffalo any longer.
ReplyDeleteBerk!Mais c'est vrai qu'à l'époque, ils étaient encore asez bêtes pour massacrer des animaux et s'en vanter..Alors, on ne devrait pas être étonné..
ReplyDeleteEeuw, I'd hate to live somewhere with a head on the wall.
ReplyDeleteMore a nightmare! Excellent catch and a really weird thing to hang on a wall like that...
ReplyDeletePoor bison!
ReplyDeleteYou took a great picture, anyway I think it's sad to see an animal at the wall.
Hugs
Léia
Funny! It sure seemed out of place! Bizarre!
ReplyDeletePour continuer sur la lancée de Malyss et Olivier, il y aura peut être même un acquéreur de nos jours pour cela !
ReplyDeleteHey, maybe he came from Omak!!
ReplyDeleteDid you find out the whys and wherefores about Mr. Bison?
Love the previous post with the Primroses and Hyacinthes. They shout SPRING!! MB
Yikes. That is surprising. A trophy I'm sure from someone's past hunting trip. Can't decide if it adds or detracts from its elegant surroundings.
ReplyDeleteas one might say.... there's a moose loose about this hoose...
ReplyDeleteIt seems so out of place! Great eye, Ciel! :-)
ReplyDeleteLet's just agree we all had a real good lunch and never mention it again, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, out of place, but very cool in this shop. Were buffalo ever indigenous to the European continent?
ReplyDeleteA wonderful title! I think I'd empty my bank account to buy the entire contents of the room. The setting is perfect! :)
ReplyDeleteencore un trophée royal
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting find!
ReplyDeleteNo surprise really, I have seen real live ones in France, in Normandy close to Dieppe - a farm of course!
