Une hallucination ?

Was this a hallucination? Amidst the most classical 17th and 18th century antiques in a shop window...

Au beau milieu des plus classiques antiquités des XVIIè et XVIIIè siècles, il avait... ceci !

  1. That buffalo sure traveled a long way from the American west.

  2. What in the world is this thing doing there? That's fascinating. I don't think you had bison in France, right?

Maybe the owner took a trip to Montana and shot one and brought home the head?

  6. Yes, it is possible, or perhaps the shop was used as a meeting place by the Surrealists decades ago. Maybe it's just that Dali once browsed here.

  7. Wow, a curiosity in that setting. My friends stayed at an inn on the central coast of California during their honeymoon trip which featured, along with the round bed and red satin sheets, a buffalo head like this over looking the bridal suite :-). The place is the Madonna Inn outside of San Luis Obispo, and was known for its excess and tacky taste in decorative arts. At least this mounted head seems to be among tasteful surroundings :-:. I like the warm yellow and browns in your photo.

  11. Has to be a collector's item as one can't hunt buffalo any longer.

  12. Berk!

  16. More a nightmare! Excellent catch and a really weird thing to hang on a wall like that...

  17. Poor bison!
You took a great picture, anyway I think it's sad to see an animal at the wall.

  21. Yikes. That is surprising. A trophy I'm sure from someone's past hunting trip. Can't decide if it adds or detracts from its elegant surroundings.

  25. Yes, out of place, but very cool in this shop. Were buffalo ever indigenous to the European continent?
