Saint Louis neighbourhood yesterday afternoon. These little houses, part of four squares, were built in 1737 as the new city was expanding and were initially meant to be markets. The four squares have wonderfully evocative names: well square, oats square, soil square and fountain square. This is the well square.
All the parks as well as the palace grounds are closed just in case someone breaks a leg, which makes for one very unhappy and irritated blogger!

Wow, closing because of snow? Can't imagine how that would work around here!
ReplyDeleteHow I love seeing your snow photos! I have left a comment on the last 5 or 6 posts. Somehow, I did not transfer your link to my new blog and I will do it right now so I don't miss any more of your snow photos!
ReplyDeleteI didn't think you got much snow there! Shows how much I know!
ReplyDeleteHouses built in 1737, heh? Sheesh! And they're still standing. We have some built in 1937 that are still standing. I thought that was a big deal.
Why are there all those abandoned bikes?
What a funny closure.
ReplyDeleteI love this scene. It looks so quiet and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot. I love the bikes on the fence.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very cool photo, even though they wouldn't let you in. I see it snowed again. Did I miss a post?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shot, Ciel. I would love to see the interiors of these houses.

The bicycles leaning on the fence add a lot to this image. I assume the square names refer to their original functions?
ReplyDeleteLovely shot!! I'm smiling at your comment about not being able to access the park!!! thanks for the "history too!
ReplyDeletehappy sunday!
Gena
PS. my post is up too!

Oats Square, that's the one I'd choose.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture.
Maybe you just have to put your fence-climbing skills into practice. :)
aso people are still out riding bicycles in the snow? That sounds way more dangerous than walking in it.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe everything is being closed down because of the snow. Amazing! East Gwillimbury wold be shut down for half the year! ;-)
Your snow pictures are amazing, the closing of the parks seems an eerily familiar no-trouble policy like the one leading to the closure of our New Fortress.
ReplyDeleteAhh Ciel, what a fabulous shot!
ReplyDeleteI love the byke detail, it's ART dear friend!
Here is also snowing since yesterday. We needed to change our plans for this weekend.First we were thinking to go to Paris ( yesss!!!!) but Cezar was afraid about the snow and I heard something about the tyres, and lots of snow...and so on...Then kids wanted to go to Amsterdam. But a friend wrote saying "do not go there this weekend because the snow"...So, we decided to go home!
But I'm happy enjoying blog friends!
opssss
unhappy and irritated - but on the positive side - still full of leg ...
I'd love to see all four squares. Is your toothache adding to your disgruntlement over being locked out of the park? May the weather soon turn mild, your snow become a pleasant memory, and the park gates fall open.
ReplyDeleteTo those wondering about the closed parks: VP hit the nail. It's the new no-trouble policy. If the parks are closed, no one will break a leg or receive a branch on the head.
ReplyDelete@ Brattcat: when the park gates fall open, the snow will be gone...
@ Tapirgal: no, I don't think you missed a post ;-), why? But yes, it did snow again in the night from Fri. to Sat.
@ all: thanks for your concern about my tooth. Actually, it's still painful at times even though I am swallowing a inordinate amount of antibiotics, which can't be changed. Next appointment Tue. evening after work!
@ Dina: what I really wanted was to take some photos of the palace grounds! No jumping over fences there!
@ Chuck: yes they do, though there was never really a market as such here. It immediately became a residential area with shops.
@ Renate: danke!
Donc, même courroucée, tu me fais plaisir!U
Lovely shot and the bicycles add to the overall picture.
ReplyDeletethe government is always trying to protect us because we obviousy are a bunch of dunderheads. LOL MB
A lovely, wintery, snowy photo! I wouldn't want to ride a bike in the snow!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been in Paris since ages ! It's too close probably now with the Thalys, lol !
ReplyDeleteIt is a charming scene. Do people ride bicycles in the snow? I'm sure I would be better off walking. :D
ReplyDeleteToo bad they close just in case someone were to fall. With reasoning like that they should never open, because accidents can happen in any weather, at any time.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday.
blue, cold, lonely, stuck............ breathtaking. Take time to stop and listen to nature! I see you started a third blog. I'm about to head on over and have a peek.

Interesting they close this park. Riding bicycles in the snow is a challenge, but fun.
ReplyDeleteyour photo looks much like the weather we are having. Sorry that you could not go into the palace grounds!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful scene and of course the overall blue cast adds a suitable coolness to the image, nice :o)
ReplyDeleteSo you have the health and safety fascists there too! Probably an unfair description but when your angry anything goes!!
Biking in the snow? That is pretty aggressive biking!
ReplyDeleteLove the bicycles against the fence. And they're in the snow! It must be hard to ride them in snow.
