Wednesday Doorway: école maternelle à Jussieu
1930s style elementary school door in the Montreuil neighbourhood. The "maternelle" is where the smallest children go, from 3 years up (sometimes even a little less) until they are 6.
Thank you for visiting and leaving a thought! Sorry about the moderation, a bit tired of spam at the moment!
Merci de votre visite très appréciée et de laisser une pensée ! Désolée de devoir modérer vos commentaires, VDP en a un peu marre des spammeurs en ce moment !
From a cemetery to a scuola materna... I even know that before this there is the crèche...
ReplyDeleteKids start school very young in France. Children are generally 4 when they start here but by 2015, all children in Ontario will start school at 3.
ReplyDeleteSi il n'y avait pas ecrit Maternelle j'aurais pense a une entree de gare :)
ReplyDeleteIt almost looks like an entrance to a boat house instead of a kindergarten.
ReplyDeleteAnd for some reason, it looks like a high-security lock up instead of a little children's school.
ReplyDeleteWell, it keeps the little rug-rats off the streets! ;-)
ReplyDeleteA charming concept. Such a nurturing invitation for little ones could not be found in our schools.
ReplyDeleteThose look like bars on the door. A good idea knowing what my grandson is like.
ReplyDeleteSweet! I love the 1930s style.

I wonder why the door is so wide. Is this the door children generally enter?
ReplyDelete@ Stine: yes, it's the where the children enter. I have no idea why it's so wide, I suppose it is just an architectural thing...

ReplyDeleteHow interesting! I've never seen anything like this.
ReplyDeleteRoutine will start next week...this week's routine is just a brief thing.
Very interesting, Ciel. I love the lettering on the building.

We call that a preschool for those under 5 and a Kindergarten for 5-6 year olds, depending on birthdate.
