La chaire de Notre Dame

The pulpit inside Notre-Dame church, made by Simon Hurtrel in 1686. This is one of the few elements of the church that survived the French revolution and its destructive anti-clerical frenzy.

Oeuvre du sculpteur artésien Simon Hurtrel en 1686, c'est l'un des rares éléments du mobilier de l'église à avoir survécu à la révolution.

  4. Hmmm. I wonder why they left it alone. But they were busy people. I guess they had plenty of other places to "attend to." We just don't have this kind of decor here, and of course I'm in love with it. Nice angle and photo.

  6. From the pulpit do pompous priestly prelates prate peremptorily pertaining to public and personal perniciousness that prevails, perserveres and promises eternal perdition. ;-)

Another well-composed photo, Ciel. It is laden with golden glory washed in a golden light.

  15. Is that REAL gold? If so, I'm amazed it has survived for so long. I wonder why looters left this alone.
