I am sort of cheating again. This isn't a proper doorway, it's a gate. A gate that leads into a private road...
-----------------
--------------------
And yes, another award: this time from sunny and marvellous Daily Photo Barcelona, merci Rob & Mandy in 'Catalunya'!

Enfin !

Sunday was dreary, but Saturday was okay. At last some fresh green! I gather that there's a problem with Blogger again. I tried to finish my tour of your blogs yesterday evening but there weren't any photos to see...

Palm Sunday yesterday was a pretty horrible, rainy day. We had intended to go to the flower show near the cathedral but ended up in a museum, not because of the weather but because of the crowds and traffic jam. On our way there from the restaurant, I couldn't resist this scene!
-----------------------------

No, we aren't in Scotland all of a sudden, merely in a small street in Versailles where you can buy Farrow and Ball paints and paper...

Weekend Reflections: le Petit Trianon

I'm cheating: this photo of the Petit Trianon, queen Marie-Antoinette's favourite residence in the palace grounds, was taken about this time last year and isn't quite as clear as I would have liked it to be. Still, it's my contribution to James' Weekend Reflections! For all inside and outside posts of the Petit Trianon castle, click on the label below.
--------------------------------

Howdy folks, I'm back in business after 12 hours sleep and a day of farniente at home! It was a great trip to the Pacific Northwest and as you probably already know, I met three Daily City photobloggers! First I had coffee with Becky of Walla Walla Valley Daily Photo. We managed to forget taking a photo, we'll try to do better next time! Then in Seattle, I met Kim and Chuck, had a wonderful time at the Public Market and was given this beautiful spring bouquet by Kim -thanks again. MB of Stanwood didn't make it unfortunately, so next time, okay MB? The photos hanging on the wall behind Kim are Chuck's magnificent photos of Italy, on exhibition at the Local Color Café. Chuck, by the way, is caught shooting a series of photos, one of which you can see here. For those who are interested, some of the 700+ photos I took have started to trickle onto my other blog yesterday and my cowgirl boots (Kim and Chuck know about them already!) are also online!
---------------------------

Before I flew out to Seattle, I was very surprised and honoured to receive the Sunshine Award from Inverness Daily Photo! Thank you very, very much, it was greatly appreciated! I have to go back to Scotland, I miss the Highlands!

Yes, blue again yet with winter ivy, on the king's boulevard. Sorry for not having left any comments on your blogs yesterday, I came home very late after a car accident. The car is a bit of a wreck, I'm fine!
--------------------------

Most French cities are twinned with other towns. Not so Versailles, which merely entertains mostly cultural relationships with two royal or imperial cities: Nara in Japan and Pushkin, formerly Tsarskoye Selo, "the tsar's village", nicknamed the "Russian Versailles" near Saint Petersburg.

The Great Commons building, right next to the palace on the Avenue of the American Independence, was built by Jules Hardouin-Mansart to house the king's staff and administration as well as army officers. It was later used as a military hospital in the 19th and 20th centuries and is currently undergoing restoration.
